What if we don’t have to choose?
“I need to be tougher with people. It’s not really my nature, but I got this feedback, it makes sense, so I’d like to see how I can force myself into it.” Tells me this super-experienced manager from London in our #coaching session.
It sounds like a dilemma. So, we look closer.
Do we really have to choose between power and kindness?
What if we could have both?
How would it feel if we knew we can be strong and kind together? Strong back, soft front.
Brené Brown says that the most loving people are the ones with clear boundaries. Because there is no resentment.
My client loves this idea. I can see visible relief. He does not have to force himself into something against his authenticity. He investigates balancing these elements into a powerful leadership mix.
Some call this assertiveness. Some call it radical candor.
I come across this wish in my work very often.
I call this “the place where the magic happens”.
