I hike in the mountains during the summer.
Alone. Why?

A few women stopped me along the way and asked: “AREN’T YOU AFRAID? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS?”

I’m not afraid. Or… just a little 😊 And I’ve only been doing this for two years.
The first year, I figured out that I could do it, and the second year, I’m purely enjoying it.

I hike in the mountains during the summer. Alone. Why?

💡 Because it clears my mind like nothing else. I don’t think about anything, and yet so much is happening. My mind runs “on idle,” organizing, sorting, and somewhere beneath the surface, like magic, a fantastic new insight always emerges. In our hyper-fast, overloaded world, it feels like a refreshing shower of life. I hear and notice things I’d never catch in the rush of everyday life.
💡 I’ve realized that even though maps aren’t my strong suit, I always find my way.
💡 With gratitude, I observe that my body, even after fifty, can easily handle 70 kilometers (43 miles) in 4 days and still feel good—and that makes me incredibly happy.
💡 Like Mr. Svěrák said, I’m a welcoming type. Taking a step back always ends up bringing me closer to home.
💡 I’m thrilled that I can do this. I’m no mountaineer. It doesn’t run in my family, and I don’t have anyone in my circle to go with. But I’ve loved hiking in the mountains since I was a kid. When I was a little girl on vacation in the Tatras, my mom let me go on hikes with strangers because she wasn’t into it herself.

I explored the underwater world in much the same way. Alone. Because no one around me wanted to do that either.

So maybe, in the end… if you feel like you’d love to try something but don’t have anyone to do it with, or you’re a little scared if you can manage it—just give it a shot.

There’s a pretty high chance you’ll realize you can do it. That stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t as scary as you imagined. And that you’ll truly enjoy it.

When these women ask me, they always have a sparkle in their eyes that says, “Wow, that’s cool.” And you know what? It is cool! 😉

What if we don't have to choose?

I’m Katka. I don’t just hike alone; I also walk with coaching clients.
When the body moves, so does the mind, and what’s hidden beneath the surface starts to emerge.
